Proliferative vitreoretinopathy secondary to degenerative retinoschisis: A case series
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction: We report two cases proliferative vitreoretinopathy that occurred as complication of degenerative retinoschisis. Case Series: Two patients; a male and a female with vitreo-retinal hemorrhage seen in our clinic were evaluated and retinoschisis found as the only cause of the bleeding. Both were treated with Argon barrier photocoagulation which arrested the hemorrhage and resolved the visual symptoms. Conclusion: It has been suggested that retinal ischemia occurs in retinoschisis and this triggers upregulation of growth factors and subsequent formation of new vessels. This hypothesis would need to be tested to ascertain the particular growth factors, that trigger this process and if other cytokines and interleukins also play a role as the process is a vitreoretinpathy. Dramatic regression of macular and peripheral retinoschisis with dorzolamide 2 % in X-linked retinoschisis: a case report
BACKGROUND X-linked retinoschisis is one of the more frequently encountered inherited macular retinal disorders affecting young males, causing loss of vision. Patients exhibit macular schisis and peripheral schisis, which can mimic retinal detachment, a very different entity that requires surgical intervention. CASE PRESENTATION An 8-month-old African-American boy was presented to our hospita...
متن کاملHybrid wide-angle viewing-endoscopic vitrectomy using a 3D visualization system
Purpose To introduce a hybrid wide-angle viewing-endoscopic vitrectomy, which we have reported, using a 3D visualization system developed recently. Subjects and methods We report a single center, retrospective, consecutive surgical case series of 113 eyes that underwent 25 G vitrectomy (rhegmatogenous retinal detachment or proliferative vitreoretinopathy, 49 eyes; epiretinal membrane, 18 eyes...
متن کاملAnatomical and visual outcomes after two-port pars plana vitrectomy reoperation under silicone oil for epimacular membrane or recurrent retinal detachment.
PURPOSE To describe the anatomical and visual outcomes in a series of patients undergoing two-port pars plana vitrectomy reoperation under silicone oil for recurrent retinal detachment (RD) due to proliferative vitreoretinopathy or epimacular membrane (EMM) after RD repair. METHODS This study is a prospective, consecutive, interventional case series of patients presenting with recurrent RD or...
متن کاملCan the sequential use of conventional silicone oil and heavy oil be a strategy for the management of proliferative vitreoretinopathy?
INTRODUCTION Densiron is a novel long-term tamponade. Its specific gravity is 1.06 g/mL and as such it is heavier than water and provides support for the inferior retina. As proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) has a propensity for the inferior retina, we used Densiron on a consecutive series of 97 cases with inferior pathology. We hypothesised that the sequential use of conventional and heavy...
متن کاملSurgical management of fibrotic encapsulation of the fluocinolone acetonide implant in CAPN5-associated proliferative vitreoretinopathy
OBJECTIVE To review fibrosis of fluocinolone acetonide (FA) implants in subjects with CAPN5 autosomal dominant neovascular inflammatory vitreoretinopathy (ADNIV). METHODS A retrospective case series was assembled from ADNIV patients in which there was fibrotic encapsulation of a fluocinolone acetonide implant. CAPN5 genotypes and surgical repair techniques were reviewed. RESULTS Two eyes of...
